Welcome to Pre-K!

We had a wonderful first week in Pre-K! We worked hard learning new routines and classroom procedures. We learned how to line up, walk quietly in the hall, how to sit on the rug and how to put our toys away. We also participated in Morning Meeting, Free Choice, Snack, Lunch, Recess, PE, Music, French, Art and Circle Time.

Let's take a closer look at the week:

Fine Motor Beading:

In Pre-K we work a lot on developing fine motor skills. Fine motor skills are those that involve a refined use of the small muscles which control the hand, fingers and thumb. With the development of these skills, a child is able to complete important tasks such as writing, feeding oneself, buttoning and zippering. Little hands need to develop dexterity and strength!

Watercolor Painting:

This week we introduced watercolor for an art activity. Watercolor is fun because there is such a variety of ways to apply it. Preschoolers love working with watercolors because water allow the colors to bleed together, creating new colors!

Library:

Story-time with Ms. Hilda was a blast! The kiddos loved singing and reading in our Lower School Library. The kiddos even have the opportunity to check out a library book. Please remember to return the library books each week so your child can check out new books weekly.

Art:

Art with Ms. Stein was so much fun! Ms. Stein read the book, "Beautiful Oops!"by Barney Saltzberg. The book shares that it's OK to make a mistake - in fact ... hooray for mistakes! The children then had the opportunity to work in small groups to color a shapes mural.

French:

In French class, the children enjoyed songs and puppet play with Madame!

PE:

During PE Mr. Linkhart introduced fun games that included balloons, pool noodles and scarves!

Recess:

This week we enjoyed beautiful weather! The kiddos loved our playground and sandbox. It's so good to enjoy time outside before it starts getting cold!

Reminders:

-If you are interested in adding family photos to our classroom "Family Bulletin Board" please either bring in photos or email me pictures. If you email me pictures I can print, laminate, and add to the bulletin board.

-Mini School Night is Thursday, Sept. 5. Please come and learn about Pre-K's routines, procedures and curriculum.

-Please make sure your child's cubby has at least three sets of seasonally appropriate clothes. At the beginning of the school year it is common that the kiddos have accidents and need to change their clothes.

-The classroom door opens at 8:20. If you arrive before the classroom opens please bring all belongings to the Morning Room. If you need to talk with me I am usually in the classroom setting up for the day - feel free to knock on the door.

-Everyday I post A LOT of photos on our Pre-K Facebook Group. The group is a "closed" group so only approved members can see the photos. Please become a member so you can see your kiddo in action everyday! https://www.facebook.com/groups/512239092454991/

Next week we will continue to get acquainted with routines and procedures. Once all the kiddos get more comfortable in the classroom and navigating around the school we will begin our Thematic Units, Centers and Zoo Phonics!
