THEMES

WELCOME TO PRE-K

The activities in this unit provide opportunities for families, children and teachers to share likes and dislikes, make connections between school and home, and set the stage for a year of collaborative and joyful learning. As we get to know your children and families, we will also be introducing the children to the materials and routines of the classroom and working to build a positive classroom culture. Introducing routines and the daily schedule help create a flexible structure where expectations are developmentally appropriate and predictable.

ALL ABOUT ME

The goal behind an All About Me theme is to help children learn about each other and each others' families! The theme helps children to realize that every person is unique and special. They also learn that every child's thoughts and ideas are important.

CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is an all time favorite book in schools and Pre-K is no exception! Learning about letters and the alphabet can be a lot of fun! The activities planned around the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault help us explore the letters of the alphabet in a fun and meaningful way.

PUMPKINS

Using real pumpkins for hands-on play and learning, the children experience countless activities including: exploring the inside of a pumpkin, counting pumpkin seeds, hammering, melting crayons on a pumpkin, washing station and so much more!

SPIDERS

Spiders are exciting to learn about at halloween and all year round, and the more children (and adults) know about them, the more they will understand the many benefits that spiders provide.

FALL

Fall, Autumn--either word brings cool days and relief to summer heat for most people.  During this unit of study we will explore the change in seasons as well as leaves, apples, corn, pinecones and acorns!

THANKSGIVING

Thanksgiving is a time that we reflect and take note of all that we are grateful for. It’s also a time for gatherings and lots of yummy food! Thanksgiving is a fun holiday to explore in the classroom as you can incorporate sharing, giving, and gathering together.

GINGERBREAD

The tale of the gingerbread man is adored by kids of all ages.  There are few things as exciting as a cookie that leaps from a baking sheet to have adventures!  The gingerbread unit is filled with playful learning activities to encourage the Pre-K kids to explore, observe, learn, and grow!

"THE MITTEN" BY JAN BRETT

"The Mitten" is a perfect book for the winter months! The mitten theme is filled with a variety of cross-curricular lessons to do before, during, and after reading the book.

POLAR BEARS

Most kids love learning about animals and habitats. Winter is the perfect time to learn about the wonders of the polar bear!

VALENTINES DAY & FRIENDSHIP

Friendship in preschool--it's all about the friends! We will focus on activities that teach the kids HOW a friend acts and behaves. We will also teach them that, Yes--it IS ok to have more than ONE friend!

DINOSAURS

Kids love learning about dinosaurs! Some fun activities include a Dinosaur Discovery Table, Dino Dig, Moon Sand Dinosaur Sensory Bin, Dinosaur Excavation for Dinosaur Eggs, Dinosaur Volcano Sensory Science and so much more!

FAIRY TALES

There are so many possibilities of fantastical stories of giants, queens, kings, princesses, dragons and more to include in the fairy tales theme!

PLANTS, SEEDS & GARDEN

During this unit we focus our learning on how plants grow and the purpose of each part. We then get our hands dirty and plant various seeds in pots, jars and even bags!

WEATHER

No matter the season, there's always weather! Weather activities can be incorporated in science explorations as well as seasonal and other study themes. During class we will lead your kids to explore all kinds of weather in all kinds of ways.

SPACE

Does your Pre-K kid gaze up at the moon and stars? Or want to know more about the sun? As preschoolers get older, they begin to think about things beyond their own experiences. They wonder about the sky and what’s in it. During our space unit we help the preschoolers begin to think about planets, stars and astronauts.

CATERPILLARS & BUTTERFLIES

As the weather grows warmer and flowers start to bloom, preschoolers become more interested in the world around them. Many preschoolers are interested in bugs of all types. Which makes butterfly themes a fun learning opportunity! From different art activities to practical science, various butterfly activities will engage the Pre-K kids in different ways as they explore the butterfly life cycle.
