Weather (Part 3)

Bubble Art

Bubble painting is one of the most fun process art activities for kids. You might be "blown away" with the results. The children had a blast blowing bubbles, combining colors and making beautiful prints.

Play Dough Subtraction Smash

This activity was a big hit! Play Dough Subtraction Smash is such a fun, creative way to teach kids about subtraction! This activity emphasized listening to the word problem, drawing objects, counting and subtracting. An example of the word problem would be, "There are 8 peas on my plate, I smushed two peas, how many whole peas are left?"

Domino Line-Up Math Activity

Dominoes are ripe with number sense and a great way to teach kids to subitize numbers – that rapid ability to see a group of objects and instantly know how many without counting it. During this activity the kids are practicing many skills: counting with 1:1 correspondence, subitizing numbers, combining two numbers (intro to addition), recognizing printed numbers, creating a graph, understanding that numbers can be composed of different numbers (think 5 is made of 1 and 4).

Rainbow Texture Collage

Last week the kiddos completed their rainbow texture collages. They look beautiful and are hanging on our classroom door.

Drop! Splat! Rain & Gravity Process Art

The children were very engaged during this activity and loved climbing up the step-stool and dropping the pompoms onto the paper. I asked the Pre-K kids to tell me what happened. "It splatted!" "It made a crazy shape!" After a few tries on the step-stool, I had some of the kiddos stay on the ground and drop the pompoms.  When asked what they observed, most of them pointed out that those splats weren’t as big.  When I wondered why, they said the pompoms had farther to fall when they were on the step-stool.  According to one of the girls, “that pompom fell from higher, so it made a bigger splat!”

Starburst Craft

To make our starburst craft we needed white card stock paper, different sized circle containers, orange and yellow oil pastels, yellow paint and a plastic fork. The children first traced circles onto their white paper making sure to use several different shapes to represent the different sizes of stars. Next the children colored each circle yellow and orange. We then used the yellow paint and a plastic fork to paint the rays of light around each star and let it dry.

Art Class

This week in art class the children practiced print-making using ink and brayers. They first used their brayers to roll out the ink and then used scrapers to make a picture or a design. Then the kids placed a piece of paper on their artwork to transfer the image.

This week our Mystery Reader was Benjamin's mom! Thank you for coming in to read to us!

Pre-K/Senior Picture

Every year the Pre-K kids and Seniors take a picture together for the yearbook - the youngest kids in school and the oldest!

Class Auction Gift

This week our class representative - Ms. Ling - spent some time with the kids making fingerprint birds for our class gift.
