Weather (Part 2)

Rain Cloud Science Experiment

The Pre-K children explored clouds and rain in a hands-on and engaging way! To begin the activity we asked the kiddos to pick up some colored water with a pipette and squirt it on top of the shaving cream cloud. They repeated this step over and over, paying close attention to what was happening below with the cloud. Eventually, the colored water began to seep down through the shaving cream and into the water below. Just like rain!

Fizzing Colors

The Pre-K children absolutely loved this classic baking soda and vinegar experiment. A few of the kiddos even spent 30+ minutes "oooohhhhhing" and "ahhhhhhing" over the colorful chemical reactions they created with just three kitchen ingredients! To set up this activity I squeezed a few drops of food color on our activity trays and then covered the droplets with small piles of baking soda. I then set up cups of vinegar with a dropper in each one. I then invited the kids to fill up the droppers with vinegar and then squeeze the liquid on top of the piles of baking soda to find the "mystery color" underneath each pile. The kids LOVED this process and enjoyed the fizzy bubbles that resulted in mixing the baking soda and vinegar.

Journals

After reading the book, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" the kiddos drew pictures and shared stories about what food they would like to fall from the sky!

Rainbow Sensory Collage

The children enjoyed creating sensational eye-popping rainbows using a variety of textures. Our rainbow sensory collages explores tactile sensations, loose materials, glueing, fine motor, and encourages self-exploration.

Phonics & Phonemic Awareness

The children are continuing to practice early reading skills. We differentiate learning based on what each child is working on. Some kiddos are working on Zoo Phonics letter identification/sounds and some kiddos are working on blends, digraphs and sight words.
