There's Snowplace like Pre-K!

This week in Pre-K we focused on many skills and participated in various activities including: Zoo Phonics, Handwriting Without Tears, Art, Fine Motor Development, Story Time, Circle Time, Music, PE, Library, French, Recess, Reading Buddies and Mystery Reader!

Texture Snowflakes

This week the children helped create a new bulletin board display. In order to create the background the children stood on a table (carefully!) and painted the white bulletin board paper using dark blue and white paint using paint brushes and rollers. We even added glitter! Next the kiddos used various collage items to make Craft Stick Snowflakes. We even made puffy paint to create the look of snow on the snowflakes.

Art Class with Ms. Stein

This week Ms. Stein began art class by reading the book, "A Snowy Day." The kiddos were then asked to create a snowy scene using oil pastels on white card stock. The kids then painted on top of their snowy scenes using blue and purple paint. The final step was to sprinkle salt all over their picture. The children loved watching the color resist created by the oil pastels as well watching the salt absorb the paint!

French with Madame

Each week the kids sing songs and read stories in French!

Phonics & Reading Practice

It is so fun and rewarding helping the kiddos practice early reading skills. It is one of my favorite things to teach the kids. They absolutely love our Zoo Phonics practice and most of the kids have already mastered ALL of the letter sounds! Once the kids master the letter sounds, they are ready to start reading by blending letter sounds together. During the week we practice isolating letter sounds in a word and then slowly blending the sounds together to read the word. Please let me know if you would like to take some cards home for extra practice!

Colander Pipe Cleaner Fine Motor Activity

This fine motor skills activity is an easy way for young children to practice hand-eye coordination and learn through play.

Ms. Christy the Paleontologist

This week we had a special guest who is a Paleontologist! She talked to us about what she does in the field and in the lab. The kiddos also asked very important questions. See below for the list!

Reading Buddies

Journals

This week the kiddos had a "journal challenge." The children were challenged to turn a circle into something new. The kiddos created sharks, flowers, people and jack-o-lanterns!

Mystery Reader

This week our mystery reader was Eden's mom. Thank you for coming in and reading to us!

Next week we will begin our Gingerbread Unit!
