The Five Senses

Why is it important for children to learn about the 5 senses?

The outside world shapes children's development through experiences that they have, which include using their five senses—hearing, sight, smell, taste, and touch. Drawing a child's attention to the five senses and discussing them increases understanding of and communication about the world around us.

EYES/SIGHT

We started the week with talking about our sense of sight. We read a really fun book. I See,

Then we played this fun guessing game. We looked at a picture of only someones eyes. We then had to guess who the eyes belong to. The kids did an amazing job of guessing. We then matched them to the face.

With the picture of our eyes, we then did a picture of what we like to see.

I spy with my little eye. Time to make a looking scope. Then off for a walk to see what we could find. If you looked at the facebook page, you will see the looking scopes turned into instruments.

NOSE/SMELL

This book was so fun. It's amazing what you can smell on a walk.

Now it was our turn to smell. Which smell do you like best? I was surprised to find the onion was the most popular.

Taking a sniff.

We then looked at a picture of only someones nose. We then had to guess who the nose belong to. The kids did an amazing job of guessing again, When they matched them to the face.

Magic Pictures

Where is the picture. Time to find it. A wax drawing which the kids could not see was on the paper. What a surprise when they painted over with the watercolor paint. Just like magic the picture appeared.
