The five senses

This week we began our Five Senses unit. The five senses help children explore the world and make sense of what’s around them. We had so much fun learning about our senses through song. Google, The Five Senses, by Kiboomers. I'm sure your kids will sing a long.

The activities listed below encouraged the Pre-K kids to use their senses in lots of different ways!

This week we focused on sight and touch. Next week will focus on taste, smell and listening.

Share these pictures with your children. Is a great way to encourage language development.

Touchy Feely Guessing Game

We LOVE sensory activities in Pre-K! We especially love messy sensory activities. But sensory doesn't always mean messy, and this activity is a great non-messy one! The touchy feely guessing game is a good way to practice tactile memory and it is a lot of fun too! Before I called the kids over to circle time, I chose some objects without them seeing. I tried to choose different sized objects and with different textures too. During circle time I hid the items in a bag and chose one item at a time, put the item in the touchy feely container and then asked the kids to guess what the item was. The kids had to rely on a single sense - touch - to identify the objects hidden from sight! With the tricky ones, I would ask questions to guide the children: Is it heavy or light? Is it smooth or rough? Everyone was a pretty good guesser. Try this game at home. They might even trick you.

Telescope Fun

After much discussion about the senses of sight and touch. It was time to go on an outdoor adventure of I (eye) spy. Your children took their telescopes home. I'm sure they would love to check out the neighborhood around your home.

Exploring fruit with our senses.

What can you tell from looking and touching pieces of fruit? Turns out a lot. Ask your children to tell you about all the differences.

Color Match

We became little explorers. Searching for hidden treasures. Then matching them to the color.

Sand Art

What started out as a sand texture picture. Turned in to an amazing exploration of sand and colors. We also loved drawing and writing letters in the sand.

Shaving Cream

One of our favorite ways to play.

Color Walk

How do you make colors walk? Paper towels water and food coloring.

Ice melt experiment.

Who new watching ice melt could be so exciting. We tried melting ice in many different ways. Ask your children to tell you about it.

Pancake Fun

The Pre-k chefs were at it again. Cooking pancakes in a whole new way. Our 5 senses were loving every minute of this.

Show and Tell

We were excited to have Lizzy join us remotely for show and tell.

PE Class

Loving every minute of being in the gym.

Library Time

We had our first visit to the Roycemore library.

French Class

French Class is zoomed in. We were learning about arctic animals.

Art Class

Mr. Matt introduced us to the book ish. Which teaches us it's okay that everything you draw doesn't have to be perfect.

Outdoor Fun

We have 2 weeks of school left until we go on our 2 week holiday break. Please be sure to check your emails about the after break remote plans. Enjoy your weekend.
