- 2 min read
This week we continued our spiders unit. During morning meeting and circle time we read spider books and talked a lot about spiders. Below are some spider facts:
-The largest spider in the world is the Goliath Birdeater Tarantula.
-Spiders don't get caught in their own webs because they have self-oiling legs.
-Not all spiders spin webs, several spiders use different strategies for obtaining food.
Watercolor & Salt Spider Webs
How to create these beautiful spiderwebs:
1.) Squeeze glue designs/spiderwebs onto your card stock.
2.) Sprinkle with salt until the glue is thoroughly covered. Tip to let excess salt fall away.
3.) Dip your paint brush into liquid watercolor paint then gently touch to the salt-covered glue lines. Watch the paint “magically” travel in both directions!
4.) Let dry thoroughly.

Painting Snow
This week we brought snow inside for a little exploration and snow painting…so fun!!

Handwriting Without Tears
This week we also started our Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. Handwriting Without Tears is an award-winning curriculum that offers multisensory strategies and materials to teach pencil grip, letter formation, and the literacy skills that are needed for handwriting. The kids started learning how to use the "Stamp and See Screen." We practiced building letters using "wood piece" stamps and then traced the letter using a chalk-like writing tool that helps develop grip. The magnetic stamps include four shapes: Big Line, Little Line, Big Curve, Little Curve. All letters are made up of these four shapes! Using repetitive language helps children learn how to form letters and eventually learn how to write these letters independently.

Art Class - 3D Sculptures
In art class the kiddos created 3D sculptures using long strips of construction paper and tacky glue. It was exciting to watch the kiddos create and talk about their creations. "I made a roller coaster!" "Look, here is a slide!"
