This week was SNOW much fun!! We completed our gingerbread unit and read books such as, "The Gingerbread Pirates" "The Gingerbread Cowboy" and "The Gingerbread Mouse." The kiddos also participated in many winter themed activities.
Snowmen Craft
During this multistep project the kids used pom-poms and white paint to create snow on blue paper, and then used scissors to cut out a circle and a trapezoid for the snowman. Then the kiddos cut out strips of paper for the scarf and glued down black beans for the mouth. The final step was gluing all of the individual pieces onto the blue paper.
Winter Texture Collage Craft
Our winter texture collages encouraged the kids to explore various materials and put them together however they liked. The activity was not about having a fixed end result but about the process.
Bookmark Craft with Reading Buddies
This week the Pre-K kiddos and their 6th grade Reading Buddies worked together and created bookmarks for someone special at Roycemore. The teachers created a list of faculty members that the students see daily - specials teachers, administrators, receptionists, etc. The buddies then pulled the names out of a hat to see who they were making a bookmark for. After the children created their bookmarks - complete with a special message on the back - the buddies delivered their bookmarks around school!
Kindergarten Auto Show
This week we visited the Kindergarten Auto Show! The Kindergarten kids participated in a Design Thinking process where they were encouraged to design their own vehicles using recycled goods! First, they learned all about vehicles and how they work, then they drew out their designs, finally they built their designs!

Holiday Party
The last day before break was filled with excitement! The Pre-K kids enjoyed a PJ and Gingerbread House Party with their Reading Buddies. Each kiddos got to build and decorate a milk carton gingerbread house.
When we return to school in January we will begin our Polar Bears unit!
