Fall Fun. Acorns, Pinecones, corn and an adventure!!!

Every week I think this is the busiest week we have had. But check out this week. We were so busy you will see we have two blogs this week.

Our second week of fall has taken us a little closer to nature.

Playing with natural materials exposes children to the incredible diversity and beauty in our environment and also teaches math and science concepts.

Pinecones

What a great way to have fun while counting and exploring different textures of the pinecones.

Bring on the paint! Pinecone painting.

pinecone playdoh!

Acorns & Squirrels

Acorns and squirrels just go together naturally.

Acorn counting

Torn paper squirrel Art

When a child tears a piece of paper, they improve hand strength and endurance in the small muscles in the hand. These intrinsic muscles are important in so many fine motor skills, including those important to handwriting and coloring, managing buttons and zippers, manipulating pegs, and more.

When paper is torn, the hands assume a great tripod grasp which is effective and a mature grasp for writing and coloring. The non-dominant hand is assisting in the tearing and encourages appropriate assistance for tasks like holding the paper while writing, and managing paper while cutting with scissors.

I hope your children demonstrated how their squirrel can swoosh its tail. Not to mention what a fun word to add your vocabulary. Swoosh.

Corn, Corn and more Corn

there was an abundance of corn in the Pre-K room. Yes I went to the cornfield and picked it myself.

We explored many types of corn. Feed corn for animals to eat (and children to play with :) ), People corn on the cob, canned corn, popcorn and ground corn to make corn meal.

The Pre-K chefs were at it again. Anyone want a corn muffin!!

Who new popcorn could be so fun. Check out the excitement on the Facebook page!

Corn tasting!

Did you guess which your child said they would like best?

Another Question of the day.

Corn Maze

Fine motor activity involves the use of small muscles that control the hand, fingers, and thumbs. Fine motor skills help children perform important tasks such as feeding themselves, grasping objects, and writing. The ability to accomplish self-care and everyday tasks by using fine motor skills helps a child’s self-esteem and confidence grow.

While you were looking at these corn activities. And seeing how much fun your child is having. Did you know these activities while fun were planned to develop there fine motor skills and here's why.
