Science - Sink or Float?
This activity never fails to please! The “Sink or Float” experiment is a perfect opportunity to talk about the scientific method. The students first started by forming a hypothesis. Next, they performed the experiment (dropping the items in a tub of water) and recorded the results. We completed the experiment using a variety of items including: blocks, rocks, legos, markers, etc. We ended the experiment using a coconut!

Science - We used our 5 senses to explore a coconut!

Math - Do you like coconut?
After tasting the coconut we surveyed the students and recorded whether or not they liked coconut.

Math - Number Sense
In Pre-K we focus a lot on number sense. Number sense is a group of skills that allow kids to work with numbers. It includes skills like: understanding quantities, grasping concepts like more or less and larger and smaller, understanding the order of numbers in a list, and making comparisons. We practice number sense during morning meeting and formally during centers.
Sensory Letter Hunt
The kiddos went on a letter hunt in the sensory bin. They used magnetic wands to “rescue” the letters and then find the matching letter on their Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Letter Mat.

Mystery Reader
This week our mystery reader was Lizzy’s dad. Thank you for coming in to read to us!

Specials
Each week the kiddos participate in PE, Music, Art, French, and Library. The children love seeing their various teachers and connecting with them during their engaging classes!
Reading Buddies

Free Choice During free choice the kiddos get to participate in a variety of activities including: painting, phonics fishing, taking a look at a book, building with blocks, kinetic sand with dinosaurs, play-dough and so much more! During free choice the students can choose from any available centers. The teachers control which centers are available but the kiddos choose where to play during that time. In addition to deciding which center to go to, the students are allowed to determine how much time they spend within each center. There are many benefits of having free choice centers. The children are encouraged to make their own decisions, which may seem pretty basic to us, but its incredibly important to the kids. It gives them more ownership over their learning experiences. Also, the kiddos are able to focus on what interests them most.

Zoo Phonics
This week we learned all about Honey Horse, Inny Inchworm and Jerry Jellyfish! Ask your Pre-K kid if they can tell you the name, motion and sound that H, I and K make!
Roycemore Day Assembly

Next week we will begin our Pumpkin Unit!! Thank you for those that have brought in pumpkins! The kiddos will be engaged in different activities including: Pumpkin Washing, Pumpkin Hammering, Pumpkin Volcanoes, Pumpkin Explorations, Pumpkin Geoboard, Bubble Science Experiment with Pumpkins, and so much more!!!
