This week we began our “All About Me” unit.
Let’s take a look at the week...
Morning Meeting:
During morning meeting we read the book “All About Me” by Debbie MacKinnon and Anthea Sieveking. This book is a fun way to introduce body parts, skin color, hair color and texture. We asked questions and looked at ourselves in the mirror. What color eyes do you have? What kind of hair do you have? What kind of things can you do with your hands? What about your feet? We talked about how we are the same, and how we are different from our friends. We also talked about ways we can take care of our body.
The “Question of the Day” included questions about what the kiddos look like. The children were asked to look in the mirror and observe their characteristics. It was fun to learn that most of the kids in our class have brown eyes and curly hair!
This week we introduced Weather Watcher. The weather watcher is a special job in our classroom that gets to look outside and tell us the weather. The weather watcher then gets to dress “Weather Monkey” in the appropriate clothes. Every kiddo will get many chances to be weather watcher!
This week we learned a new zoo friend! The kiddos learned all about “Bubba Bear.” The children learned the name, motion, and sound for “B.”

Reading Buddies:
We love reading buddies!

PE:
This week in PE the kiddos played the game “Paddle Travel.” The kiddos each had a paddle and a ball. The children were instructed to gently tap the ball using their paddle and guide the ball onto a dot. This is a great game that promotes hand-eye coordination.

Recess:
The children loved running around and pretending that they were tigers!

French:
The children love french class! They sing songs and participate in a lot of movement activities. The children are working on counting and colors.
Number Swat:
During Circle Time we practiced number recognition. The kiddos each got a turn to use a fly swatter to “swat” letters and numbers that I called out.

Pom Pom Math:
For this activity the children were asked to choose a block with a number on it. Then they were encouraged to use the large plastic tweezers to pick up the corresponding number of pom poms and drop into a bowl. Using the tweezers was a challenging task for the children and required hand strength and coordination. It was great to see the children working so hard and were very determined to accomplish the task! This activity is great for promoting counting skills as well as developing fine motor skills.

Tissue Paper Letters
Our Pre-K kids are working hard on developing the fine motor skills needed for writing and other various tasks. We try to make the activities fun and engaging. During this activity the children scrunched tissue paper squares into tiny balls and then glued them onto a piece of paper, creating a tissue paper letter.

Library:
This week in library Ms. Hilda read “I Like Myself” and “The Skin I Live In.” The kiddos also sang songs and danced!
Art:
This week in art class we learned about mixing colors found in the rainbow, shapes and mobiles!

Picture Day:

Next week we will continue our All About Me unit and begin our self-portraits!
